A Christian faith journey includes a number of milestones. Special services are offered to mark these life events. The beginning of Christian life is celebrated through baptism, while the end of life on earth is recognized by a funeral or memorial service.

Please explore the options St. Philip’s offers for baptisms, weddings, and funerals as outlined below. For more information, please contact our Parish Administrator (admin@stphiliplantzville.ca) and they will provide advice on how to proceed.

We are an inclusive and welcoming parish; the sacraments of the church (baptism, communion and marriage) are available to all people on equal terms. Christ welcomes you, and so do we.

Baptisms

Baptism is a rite of entry into the church and a sign of new life in Christ. In baptism, we are born into the life of the Church. Water is blessed and poured over the head of the baby, child, or adult being baptised, as he or she is named as Christ’s own in the name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Weddings

Your wedding day is a special day in your life. If you are considering St. Philip’s as the church where you would like to be married, please email the Parish Administrator for more information admin@stphiliplantzville.ca

The priest who will officiate at your wedding will meet with you several times in the months leading up to your wedding. Some meetings will deal with the wedding ceremony while other meetings will include a marriage preparation course. Participants find this course to be an important and worthwhile part of the preparation for their wedding day and their marriage.

We wish you God’s blessings as start your life together.

Funerals and Memorial Services

When a loved one dies, we urge families to make one of their first contacts the Parish Administrator or, if possible, to contact us before the death occurs (admin@stphiliplantzville.ca). We do have a parishioner offering Pastoral Care - this can include administering the Last Rites amongst other support.

There are many rites at the time of death and the time that follows: prayers at the time of death with the family or close friends; the funeral liturgy; and the committal of the body or cremated remains. The church will work with the family and friends of the person who died to provide pastoral care and support to them as they move through grieving and the funeral process.

Whenever possible, we encourage family members to make their wishes known to their family while they are healthy, so that when death does occur the family doesn’t need to wonder about what choices to make. Contact us at any time to discuss funeral/memorial service wishes. We strongly suggest that funeral plans are kept on record with the church so that they are on-hand when the time arises.
